Description :

The Institute of Earth Sciences at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland opens a doctoral position in the field of igneous petrology. The PhD student will be integrated in the project entitled “Metasomatism and physical properties of the oceanic lithosphere” funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation. This project is a collaboration between Japanese and Swiss researchers to better understand the nature of the lithosphere-asthenosphere boundary (LAB) and the role of metasomatism in modifying the physical properties of the lithosphere. This project includes field work combined with extensive analytical studies on mineral compositions including water in NAMs from mantle xenoliths.

Our research group and partners (University of Geneva and Bern) integrates top analytical facilities (EMPA, LA-ICP-MS, SIMS, radiogenic and stable isotope labs, FTIR, etc). The successful student will be integrated into the doctoral program in Mineral Sciences. The University of Lausanne is located close to the Leman lake and Alps, and offers a very high quality of life.
